Innovation in Health Insurance - the global perspective
October 6th and 7th, 2008
On October 6, 2008 and October 7, 2008 Oracle will run a conference for European Healthcare Insurers/Payers. Presentations will examine innovations that will enable Insurers/Payers to effectively improve the quality of healthcare whilst reducing healthcare and operating costs.
The conference will have two main objectives:
- To provide an insight into the innovative concepts that have been implemented in the United States of America that allow for steering of the quality of healthcare. The idea is that a higher quality of healthcare reduces the cost of healthcare in the long run and retains customers.
- To present an overview of Oracle’s corporate strategy and the strategy for the Health Insurance industry. The Health Insurance strategy includes the development of the next generation of applications that support the core business processes of Healthcare Insurers/Payers.

Disease Management
Disease management is the concept of providing care management services such as patient education and routine monitoring to populations with targeted chronic conditions. The aim of disease management programs is to manage healthcare expenditure more effectively, while simultaneously improving the quality of life for individuals with chronic conditions.
Topics of discussion will include:
- the latest developments in disease management
- disease management program implementation methods
- the value of using personal health records
- measurement of the impact on healthcare quality and costs.
Movement towards health coaching
Health coaching is seen as the next step in the evolution of care management and a potential replacement for disease management.
Pay for performance
Pay for performance (also known as “P4P” or “Value-based pricing”) is an emerging movement in Health Insurance. Under this arrangement, Healthcare Providers are rewarded for meeting predefined quality targets for delivery of healthcare services. A US analyst will provide a pay-for-performance overview and review their experiences with P4P.
Integrated healthcare
This topic covers the effects of increasing health networking on healthcare services. A guest speaker will talk about the status of current projects and focus on the potential implications this is going to have for Healthcare Providers, provider groups and Healthcare Insurers/Payers.
Customer case study for consolidation of core health insurance applications
UVIT is an all insurance company including a Health Insurance division with 4.2 million members. The healthplans consist of both basic (public) and additional (private) insurances. UVIT is the result of a merger between Unive, VGZ, IZA and Trias. Prisma is the project with the goal to consolidate the processes and core applications for policy management, claims processing and provider contracting. The approach for the consolidation will be covered, but also the organizational aspects and the integration aspects with other types of applications, for instance the front office and internet.

Oracle will provide an overview of the industry-generic and industry-specific applications that make up the Healthcare Insurers/Payers solution footprint.
Oracle’s product strategy for core Health Insurance applications
Oracle will provide a detailed insight into the applications specifically developed to support the core business processes of Healthcare Insurers/Payers (for example healthcare procurement, benefit administration, claims processing and policy management) and to support the implementation of new innovative concepts. Oracle will also address the development of the next generation of these applications. Topics of discussion will include:
- reducing operational and healthcare costs
- self-service as a means of customer retention
- support for a made-to-measure insurance portfolio
- enabling all-finance concepts and process integration across Healthcare Insurers/Payers and providers by implementing a SOA architecture.
